ITIL® 4 is the established service management framework for designing, delivering, operating and improving IT-enabled services. The framework connects proven IT Service Management principles with topics such as Agile, DevOps, Cloud, digital transformation and value streams. It does not replace structured service management with loose methods, but gives organizations a flexible model for aligning people, digital technology, suppliers, partners and processes around value creation.

The entry point is the ITIL® 4 Foundation training in English. It provides the common terminology, core concepts and certification basis for further ITIL® 4 modules. An ITIL® V3 Foundation certificate does not directly qualify for all advanced ITIL® 4 modules. In many cases, the ITIL® 4 Foundation certification is required before continuing with advanced training.

Training path to ITIL® Managing Professional

The ITIL® Managing Professional qualification is designed for IT professionals with an operational, technical or digital service focus. It covers practical and technical knowledge for successfully running IT-enabled services, teams and workflows.

Training path to ITIL® Strategic Leader

The ITIL® Strategic Leader qualification expands the perspective from IT operations to the strategic role of digital and IT-enabled services across the organization. It is relevant for professionals who connect service management with business strategy, governance and continual improvement.

Practice-oriented ITIL® 4 qualifications

For professionals who want to deepen operational practice knowledge, the ITIL® 4 Practice Manager modules address concrete service management activities. Relevant English-language options include Monitor, Support & Fulfil and Plan, Implement & Control.

Fragen und Antworten zu ITIL® 4 Trainings in English

Which ITIL® 4 training in English should I start with?

If you do not yet hold an ITIL® 4 certification, start with ITIL® 4 Foundation in English. It provides the terminology, core concepts and certification basis for further modules such as Managing Professional, Strategic Leader and Practice Manager.

Is ITIL® 4 still relevant now that ITIL® Version 5 is available?

Yes, ITIL® 4 remains relevant for existing qualification paths, organizations that still use ITIL® 4 terminology and professionals who continue an established certification route. If you are starting a new path, it is worth comparing this category with the ITIL® 5 courses and certifications.

What is the difference between ITIL® Managing Professional and ITIL® Strategic Leader?

ITIL® Managing Professional is aimed at professionals working with IT-enabled services, teams, workflows and service delivery. ITIL® Strategic Leader addresses the strategic influence of digital and IT services on the organization, including direction, planning and digital strategy.

Do I need ITIL® 4 Foundation before taking advanced ITIL® 4 modules?

For most advanced ITIL® 4 modules, the ITIL® 4 Foundation certification is the required entry point. An ITIL® V3 Foundation certificate alone usually does not replace the ITIL® 4 Foundation requirement for further ITIL® 4 certifications.

Are the English ITIL® 4 trainings suitable for international teams?

Yes. The English-language seminars are suitable for international IT teams, global service organizations and professionals who work with English documentation, certification material or multinational service management structures.

Which ITIL® 4 course supports practical service management work?

For applied service management practice, modules such as ITIL® 4 Practice Manager Monitor, Support & Fulfil and Plan, Implement & Control address concrete activities in service operation, monitoring, fulfilment, planning and control.

What is new in ITIL® 4?

ITIL® 4 retains many of the key elements that made ITIL® valuable for IT organizations, service providers and enterprise service teams. At the same time, it replaces rigid lifecycle thinking with a more flexible service value system. This helps organizations react faster to changing requirements, improve collaboration across teams and provide services with a stronger orientation toward business value.

The framework places greater emphasis on value streams, service relationships, guiding principles and continual improvement. Instead of looking only at processes, ITIL® 4 encourages a holistic view of services, practices, governance, partners, suppliers and technology. This makes the framework relevant not only for classic IT Service Management roles, but also for software development, operations, service desk, product teams and digital transformation initiatives.

Current topics such as DevOps, Cloud services, automation, Agile working methods and high-velocity IT are reflected in the advanced modules. The Create, Deliver & Support training addresses service creation and operational delivery, while Drive Stakeholder Value focuses on customer journeys, stakeholder relationships and service value. High Velocity IT supports organizations that work with fast digital products and services.

Because ITIL® Version 5 is now available, the right training path depends on your existing certifications and professional goals. ITIL® 4 remains relevant for many established qualification paths, while ITIL® 5 may be the better entry point for new learners planning a current certification route.
